The project
A long-running mail-order wool business with a loyal following and thirty colours that photographs never quite do justice to. The site had to present the range clearly, explain ordering and stockists, carry pattern and knitting resources from several designers, and let the owner keep it all up to date without a developer.
Buyers are knitters, often ordering a specific shade for a specific gansey, so colour accuracy, cone sizes and the shade-card service had to be front and centre rather than buried.

What we did
Visit Guernsey Wool ↗
What Bath IT built
Every shade as its own entry with a page of its own, in a grid that works on a phone, with the shade-card request beside it.
No checkout, deliberately — the owner chose phone and email ordering to keep the price of the wool down — so the ordering page makes the three ways to order and the shade-card service clear.
Knitting guides and patterns organised by designer, plus how-to-order and stockist pages for people who'd rather buy in person.
Colours, prices, patterns and pages all editable by the owner in a visual editor.
What this demonstrates
The obvious brief was 'a shop'. The right answer was a catalogue with no checkout, because the owner takes orders personally and wants the price of the wool kept down. We built that instead of forcing the business into a standard e-commerce mould. If your business doesn't fit the usual template, we'd rather build what fits than sell you what's easy.

How to order
On a phone
Most visitors to a site like this arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. Every page is designed for that first — readable, tappable, quick — and then scaled up to a desktop, not the other way round.
Why website speed matters →
Technical notes
Catalogue module for the colours — structured entries rather than a page per shade written by hand
Image pipeline serves each photograph at the size the screen needs, in modern formats — the colour grid stays quick on a phone
Structured data and per-page metadata generated from the catalogue, so each colour is findable
