WiFi extender placement and configuration
Slow WiFi is one of the most common complaints we hear, and it rarely has a single cause. The most frequent culprits are router placement (walls, floors, and appliances block signal), interference from neighbouring networks on the same channel, outdated router firmware, too many devices competing for bandwidth, and ISP throttling at peak times.
Before we recommend any hardware, we run a full site survey to identify the actual cause. In many cases, repositioning your router or changing its broadcast channel resolves the problem without spending a penny on new equipment.
If your signal doesn't reach certain rooms, you have two main options: a WiFi extender or a mesh system. Extenders are cheaper but create a separate network your devices must manually switch between, and they halve bandwidth on the extended hop. Mesh systems (such as those from TP-Link Deco, Eero, or Google Nest) create a seamless single network and hand off devices automatically as you move around your home.
For smaller properties, a well-placed extender is often sufficient. For larger homes, multi-floor buildings, or properties with thick stone walls (common in Bath and the surrounding area), a mesh system is usually the better long-term investment. We advise you honestly on which solution fits your budget and building.
A home router is not designed for office use. If you're running a business from home or a small commercial premises, you need a network that handles multiple simultaneous users, keeps guest devices isolated from your internal network, and logs access for security.
