Who we are
Bath IT is a small, independent business based on Bristol Road in Radstock, ten miles south of Bath. We've been doing hands-on technical work for homes and businesses across Bath and Somerset since 1996 — networks, servers, security, hardware — and we design, build, host and secure websites with the same mindset.
That background is the difference. We're not a marketing agency with a development team bolted on, and we don't assemble sites from page builders and plugins. Every site is built by hand, which is why they're quick, why they hold up, and why they're straightforward for you to edit.
Businesses that need a website that does a job, without an agency bill:
Trades and services — plumbers, builders, electricians, garages
Shops, cafés, food producers and makers
Practices — planning, legal, health, consultancy
Clubs, societies and membership organisations
Start-ups and sole traders getting online properly
Anyone rescuing a site someone else built
What we build
Most businesses need a fast, clear site that tells people what you do and gets them in touch. Some need the site to do something — take orders, bookings, memberships, or organise a catalogue of a thousand items. We build both, and we'll tell you honestly which one you need.
Fast, clear sites for local businesses: what you do, where you do it, and an easy way to get in touch. Structured for local search from day one.
Product catalogues, card payments, order flows and stock — from a simple shop to a two-sided marketplace with buyers and sellers.
Join and renew online, members-only content and downloads, user accounts and roles for clubs, societies and subscription services.
Structured data at scale — products, plants, publications, people — with categories, search, and a search-engine-friendly URL for every entry.
Payments, email, CRMs, booking systems, accounting and APIs — connected so information flows without re-typing it.
Moving a site off an ageing platform without losing content, URLs or search rankings — including WordPress and hand-rolled PHP.
What you get
Optimised images, minimal scripts, sensible hosting — a page that loads in a blink on a rural mobile signal, not just on the office fibre.
Per-page titles and descriptions, clean URLs, LocalBusiness and Service schema, an XML sitemap and sensible internal links — built in, not bolted on.
HTTPS, security headers, a hardened content editor and no plugin sprawl. We run the same scans on your site that we run for security clients.
Semantic markup, keyboard navigation, readable contrast and text that works with a screen reader. Good for visitors, and good for search.
Domain registration or transfer, DNS, and the SPF/DKIM/DMARC records that keep your email out of spam folders — sorted as part of go-live.
A proper content editor, media library and forms — no plugin roulette — so a price change or a new page doesn't need a developer.
Why Bath IT
We're not a design studio that sends the technical bits away, and we're not a support line reading from a script. We're a small Somerset practice that has built, hosted, secured and supported technology for thirty years.
01
Every site is hand-built: clean code, fast load times, accessible markup and structured for search from day one. No bloated themes, no plugin roulette.
02
We also do penetration testing, so we build with security in mind. Your site won't ship with the common weaknesses we spend our time finding in other people's.
03
Design, build, hosting, domains, security and support from one place, with one phone number. Based in Radstock; happy to come and see you across Bath and Somerset.
04
Web work is £75 an hour, IT support £50 an hour, and every project gets a free, written quote before anything starts. No sales fluff, no account managers, no upsell.
How a project runs
A conversation — phone, video or in person around Bath and Radstock — about what the site needs to do and for whom. Free, no obligation.
A written scope and quote in plain English: pages, features, hosting, what you supply and what we do. £75 an hour, so the quote shows the hours and where they go.
Designed and built by hand, tested on real phones, checked for speed, accessibility, search readiness and security before you see it. You get working pages to click on as we go.
Domain, DNS, hosting and go-live handled. Afterwards the same people answer the phone for changes, updates and anything that breaks.
What it costs
Web design and development is £75 an hour. We don't sell packages, because a five-page brochure site for a plumber and a members' area for a society are not the same job — but we do give a written, no-obligation quote before anything starts, and it shows what the hours are for.
What moves the number: how many pages, how ready your words and photos are, whether the site has to do something (take orders, bookings, memberships, a large catalogue), and whether we're starting fresh or rescuing an existing site. Hosting and maintenance are optional and quoted separately; IT support is £50 an hour.

Bath
Bath has an unusual number of small, independent businesses for its size — shops, cafés, practices, trades, holiday lets, consultants — and most of them are competing for the same local searches. That makes the technical side of a website matter more here than in most places: a slow, muddled or badly structured site simply doesn't get seen.
We build Bath websites that are fast, properly structured for local search, and clear about what you do and where you do it. We're twenty minutes away, so we meet in the city or at our office, and we support the rest of your technology too — the tills, laptops, WiFi and printers — which is usually a relief for a small business that would rather have one number to ring.

After launch
Launch is the start, not the end. Software needs updating, certificates and domains expire, and there is always a change to make. We offer optional hosting and maintenance — backups, updates, monitoring, and changes when you need them — and periodic security and speed checks with the same scanners we sell. If you'd rather host elsewhere, we hand the site over cleanly.

Questions
Web design and development is £75 an hour, and how many hours a site needs depends on what it has to do — a brochure site for a local business and a custom web application are very different jobs. We give a free, written, no-obligation quote before anything starts and explain exactly what you're getting.
A typical small-business website takes two to four weeks from first conversation to launch. Build slots are usually one to three weeks out. The biggest variable is how ready your content is.
Yes. We're based in Radstock and most of our clients are across Bath, Midsomer Norton, Frome, Keynsham, Bristol and Somerset, but web work doesn't need a visit — we build and support sites for clients anywhere in the UK.
Every site we build is search-ready from the ground up: proper titles and descriptions, structured data, fast load times, mobile-first design and a sitemap. We don't promise rankings — nobody honest can — but nothing technical will be holding you back.
Yes. Sites come with a straightforward content editor for pages, text and images. If you'd rather we did it, changes are part of our maintenance service.
No. Most clients do, because it keeps everything with one local company, but we'll hand a site over to your own hosting if you prefer.
Yes, all the time — WordPress sites especially. We can audit, fix, speed up, secure and host an existing site without starting again, and we'll say if a rebuild would genuinely be cheaper.
