WordPress help: fix it, secure it, or move off it

Bath IT fixes, secures, speeds up and looks after existing WordPress sites, or moves them onto a simpler platform you can run yourself. We start with a free security check, quote in writing at £75 an hour, and tell you honestly which route is better value.

What we fix

WordPress problems we fix

Most WordPress trouble comes from what's been added to it over the years: plugins, themes, page builders and logins. These are the problems people bring us most.

Hacked, or showing spam

Pages you didn't add, visitors sent to other sites, or warnings in Google. We clean it, close the way in and lock the logins down.

Slow

Heavy page builders, oversized images, no caching or a slow server. We find what's actually slowing it down and fix that first.

An update broke it

A white screen, a broken layout or a form that stopped sending. We roll back what broke and put the update right.

You can't log in

Lost passwords, an admin account that's gone, or a login page that won't load. We get you back in and tidy who has access.

Too many plugins

Plugins nobody remembers adding, several doing the same job, some abandoned. We remove what isn't needed and replace what isn't safe.

An old version of PHP

Old PHP is slower and no longer gets security fixes. We test the site and move it to a supported version.

The person who built it has gone

No logins, no notes, nobody to ask. We work out how it was built, get you the access, and tell you what state it's in.

Two routes

Fix it and keep it, or move it

Fix and look after your WordPress site

We put right what's wrong, then keep WordPress, the theme and the plugins updated and the site backed up. You keep the site you have. Looking after it is quoted, because every WordPress site is built differently.

Move it onto our platform

We move your words, photos and pages onto a new site that's simpler to run, and redirect every old address so links and search results keep working. Hosting, updates and security then come as one bill.

Which is better value?

If your site is in reasonable shape, uses plugins that are still maintained, and does what your business needs, fixing it is usually cheaper. If it keeps breaking, has been hacked, is slow because of the page builder it's made with, or you pay yearly licences for a site that's really a few pages, moving often costs less over a few years. We look at your site and say which, and if the answer is to keep WordPress, we'll say so. Our guide to whether to move off WordPress goes through it.

How it works

Three steps, and you know the cost first

1

Free security check

Run our free security check on your site. It looks at it from the outside and lists what needs fixing.

2

Written quote

We look at the site and send a quote in writing, at £75 an hour. Nothing starts until you agree.

3

The fix, or the move

We fix and secure the WordPress site, or move it onto our platform with your content and old addresses carried across.

Prices

What it costs

WordPress work is £75 an hour, quoted in writing before we start. A small fix is about £30. Looking after a WordPress site is quoted, because it depends on how the site is built.

Moving off WordPress costs the price of a new site plus £300 for moving your content and redirecting the old addresses. Sites start at £495 for 5 pages, £895 for 10 and £1,295 for 20. Hosting is £100 a year on Essentials, £300 a year on Care, or from £30 a month on Business, with no contract. All our prices are on the prices page.

Who does the work

Bath IT is Gary Blake, at 44 Bristol Road in Radstock. He has done hands-on technical work since 1996, and does the work himself.

Questions

Questions about WordPress help

Do you fix WordPress sites you didn't build?

Yes. Most WordPress sites we work on were built by someone else. We start with a free security check, look at how the site was put together, then quote in writing before any work starts.

How much does it cost to fix a WordPress site?

Work is £75 an hour, quoted in writing first, and a small fix is about £30. Bigger jobs, like cleaning up a hack or speeding up a heavy site, are quoted once we've seen the site.

Can you look after my WordPress site every month?

Yes. We can keep WordPress, the theme and the plugins updated and the site backed up. Looking after a WordPress site is quoted, because it depends on how the site is built.

Should I fix my WordPress site or move off it?

It depends on the site. If it's in good shape and does the job, fixing it is usually better value. If it keeps breaking, has been hacked, or runs on abandoned plugins, moving can cost less over time. We'll tell you which.

How much does it cost to move off WordPress?

The price of a new site plus £300 for moving your content and redirecting the old addresses. Sites start at £495 for 5 pages, £895 for 10 and £1,295 for 20.
